Remembering Erico

by Clive G. Adams

I thought it appropriate to share a brief story involving our dear departed brother Erico Nadel, which is relevant to the passing of the great writer, Gabriel García Márquez, who died on April 17, 2014, at the age of 87, in Mexico City.

One day during a visit to Meherabad, I was sitting on the veranda of the old Pilgrim Center at Lower Meherabad and Eric Nadel passed by and noticed I was reading the book Love in the Time of Cholera and he felt compelled to share how Gabriel García Márquez had made a huge impact on his life and was one of his favorite authors of all time. He told me that Gabriel’s most famous  book (which I hadn’t read), One Hundred Years of Solitude, was his number one favorite book of all time. I remember Erico also shared how great a person and writer he thought García Márquez to be.

When I returned to the States, I promptly went out and bought A Hundred Years of Solitude and my son Eruch and I both started reading it. Hearing about the passing yesterday of Gabriel García Márquez, it seemed fitting to share this story with the Baba community, because it brought Erico so vividly to my mind.
